On July 28, YG announced BLACKPINK’s 2021 Summer Diary as part of the “4+1 Project," it is set to be released on August 25. On July 14, YG announced that BLACKPINK would be joining WEVERSE on August 2, as part of the “4+1 Project”.

On June 16, 2021, it was announced that BLACKPINK: The Movie will air on August 8, as part of their "4+1 PROJECT" to commemorate the group's fifth anniversary. On May 12, 2021, YG announced that BLACKPINK would have their comeback in the later half of 2021. The song also was released as a singel in Japan. The singel peaked at number 1 on the Gaon Chart and was in the top 60 songs on the US billboard. In 2018, after one year of no new releases, YG entertainment annconeced their debut Korean mini-album, Square Up, and its lead single Ddu-Du-Ddu-Du. The single peaked at number 2 on the Hot Korean Chart and sold 2,500,00 copies in South Korea and 9,000 in the USA. That year, Blackpink released the single As if If it's Your Last.
